Fantasy sports platform, DraftKings, has announced an exclusive three year relationship with the National Football League’s International Series in the United Kingdom.
The new affiliation marks the first of many steps within DraftKings’ global expansion plans to reach new audiences through both global and local sports.
As part of the deal, DraftKings will engage NFL fans throughout the UK with branding and fan activities at the three NFL International Series games taking place this year at Wembley Stadium.
The 2015 fixtures will see New York Jets take on Miami Dolphins this weekend, Buffalo Bills facing Jacksonville Jaguars on 25th October, and Detroit Lions joining Kansas City Chiefs the following weekend on 1st November.
DraftKings chief executive officer Jason Robins said: “Our partnership with the NFL’s International Series provides the ideal platform in which to introduce fans to DraftKings in the UK as we expand beyond the United States.
“As the league looks to introduce more sports fans to American football, we will look to showcase what we believe is the world’s best DFS (daily fantasy sports) product to British fans through the support of our new partner.”
DraftKings will host events outside of Wembley Stadium prior to all three games, with additional events at Trafalgar Square on Saturday 3rd October and on Regent Street on Saturday 24th October.
At these events, fans can take part in a series of American football skills challenges to win merchandise, prizes and experiences. DraftKings’ advertising will also appear during the broadcast of NFL games on Sky Sports TV in the United Kingdom.
DraftKings chief international officer Jeffrey Haas, added: “The response to DraftKings’ upcoming ‘British invasion’ has been outstanding, and we are thrilled to introduce our product soon to fans in the United Kingdom. This relationship with the NFL is just a taste of what’s to come!”
In August, DraftKings announced that the company had been granted a license to operate in the United Kingdom and would open its third office, in London, by the end of 2015. DraftKings expects to be operational in the UK in the fourth quarter, with launches in additional markets, including Europe, Asia Pacific and Latin America, planned for 2016.
