Lawn Tennis Association chief executive Roger Draper has said that he is not considering resigning from his position.

Andy Murray was the only Briton to make it through to the second round of Wimbledon, after Elena Baltacha, Laura Robson, Melanie South, Katie O’Brien, Anne Keothavong, Heather Watson and the only other British male in the tournament, Jamie Baker all made an early exit from the competition.

Draper set a target of five Britons to be in the top 100 two years ago and only Murray and Baltacha have made it.

When asked if he had thought about resigning, Draper said: ‘No, we are in this for the long term. As a leader in sport, what you now need is business continuity and to continually improve what has been happening across the sport.’

‘We are four years into a 10-year transformation of the sport,’ he added.

The early exits from the tournament have meant that this is Britain’s worst ever start to Wimbledon.
