Dubai-based consortium Zabeel Investments have withdrawn their interest in a potential takeover bid for Coca-Cola Championship club Charlton Athletic.

Zabeel Investments made an indicative offer for the club earlier this month but after considering the investment’s potential have decided to end their interest in the South London team.

A statement from the club said the group had decided to focus on domestic investment opportunities instead.

The statement read: ‘This, the debate over foreign ownership of clubs and the worsening UK economic climate contributed to their decision to pull out.’

Zabeel Investments has also been linked with takeover bids for Premier League clubs Newcastle United and West Ham United but has strenuously denied a financial interest in either team.
