EA Sports has booked the entire 4 minute commercial break at halftime during this Sunday’s Chelsea v Manchester United game on Sky Sports to launch its ad campaign for the FIFA 09 game.
The overall campaign features a host of footballers, including United’s Wayne Rooney, playing FIFA 09 in a 10 against 10 public match. The ad promotes a key new feature of the game – the ability to connect 10 players from across the globe to team up and take on 10 others.
The one-off 4-minute version of the ad, whch pits Wayne Rooney and Manchester United against Gonzalo Higuaín and Real Madrid, will air on Sky Sports 1 this Sunday during the second commercial break at halftime in the Premier League match between the title contenders.
The campaign breaks in advance of the FIFA 09 game’s launch on Friday 3rd October.
After a three week shoot across Germany, France, Spain and the UK the campaign will be breaking with fully integrated TV, Print and digital all focused around the match day events.
Print executions of the campaign will show the professional footballers with their gaming teams. For example, the Manchester United team is made up of Wayne Rooney and 9 of the best football gamers in the world.
Digital marketing activity will be a multifaceted pre and post launch experience including emails announcing the online demo, launch of the game and rich media banners driving people to the FIFA09 product site where, pre-launch, they will see fans announcing their predictions for the upcoming events and, post launch, they will see the events themselves.
