New ECB chief executive officer Tom Harrison has appointed Chris Haynes as the Board’s director of communications.
Haynes, who has held a series of communications roles at Sky – including PR director for Sky Sports and director of external affairs for Sky Sports and Team Sky – will join the ECB’s senior leadership team at Lord’s in May to lead the communications department.
Commenting on his appointment, ECB CEO Tom Harrison said: “Chris is one of the very best communications professionals in the business and he has a hugely impressive track record in delivering successful PR campaigns across a range of sports, supporting talent and working at the most senior levels.
“We’re delighted that Chris will be bringing his PR expertise to our leadership team and he’ll have a major role to play as we develop a long-term strategy for the whole game, build towards this summer’s Ashes series, and prepare to host ICC global events here in 2017 and 2019.”
Since joining Sky in 1990, Haynes has held a succession of senior management positions at Sky, been part of the Sky Sports leadership team for over a decade and overseen media operations for Team Sky including the Tour De France wins in 2012 and 2013.
Chris Haynes, who will be Harrison’s first outside appointment to his leadership team, added: “This is a great opportunity to help the development of a major sport and one which hugely excites me.
“I’m really looking forward to working closely with Tom Harrison, his team and the communications department as well as supporting the ECB’s wider efforts to boost grassroots participation, increase domestic attendance and achieve wider support and recognition for the England men’s, women’s and disability cricket teams.”
