The ECB has revealed it is offering Britain’s leading companies an opportunity to shape the future of cricket in England and Wales by becoming title sponsor of the ECB’s premier schools programme – Kwik Cricket.

Every summer, the programme gives children (aged 5-11) at 10,000 schools nationwide the opportunity to play and learn cricket in a competitive but fun environment.

Last summer, a record 147,000 girls and boys played Kwik Cricket, which has been played in primary schools for over 20 years. Participation continues to grow year-on-year and it is the largest structured primary school initiative in England and Wales.

The competition has been backed by Asda as title sponsor for the last eight years, with over 1 million boys and girls playing the sport during that time. However, their contract with the ECB expired at the end of 2013 and was not renewed as they turn their attention to their Active Sports Leaders Campaign.

Kwik Cricket runs through the Primary school summer term, with the early stages of the competition being delivered at local festivals, culminating in more than 50 County Finals. Pupils aged 11, in both mixed and girls teams, compete for the chance to play in one of four National Finals, held at a County Cricket Ground.

John Perera, commercial director at ECB, added: ‘We are extremely proud of our ever-expanding Kwik Cricket programme, with more children every year enjoying their first introduction to cricket. The opportunity to be associated with such a major school sport project is an exciting one, and one that I expect will stimulate lots of interest in the market as brands look for ways to make a real difference to school sport.’
