The England and Wales Cricket Board is set to restructure the domestic county Twenty20 competitions, after announcing plans to unveil two new leagues to be launched in June 2010.
The first of the two competitions, called P20, will consist of two divisions, each with nine teams. Qualification for the top division of P20 will be the three winning teams in each group in this year’s Twenty20 Cup with entry into the global Champions League coming from this competition.
The ECB also announced that there are plans to have another Twenty20 competition in the later part of the 2010 season, which will follow in the same format as the current Twenty20 Cup – the only existing domestic county competition being played in this format.
Following the approval of the P20, the ECB Board will now look toward deciding on the playing conditions, the number of overseas players and other technical issues.
Meanwhile, the ECB Board also decided that there should be female representation at the highest level in the organisation.
