F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone has moved to end ongoing speculation of a potential breakaway from the sport by the leading teams.
The issue was raised once again following a media lunch involving Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo, who suggested that teams would not want to be ‘locked in an F1 prison’.
The comments came ahead of discussions to extend the current Concorde Agreement, which is scheduled to expire at the conclusion of the 2012 campaign.
Ecclestone stated: ‘It’s what he (Montezemolo) says every time he goes to Monza every year. ‘We need more money’. It’s all nonsense.’
‘They’re not going to break away. They’ve tried it all before. Luca’s a lovely guy but he likes to say these things and then he forgets what he is saying.’
