Edgbaston is the latest of England’s established cricket venues to announce a multi-million pound rebuilding plan.
The £30m plan involves building a new stand that includes player facilities, additional ubiquitous corporate hospitality areas, and a banqueting suite. This scheme will increase capacity to 25,000 from its current 20,000.
The improvement plan comes as pressure continues to grow for England’s test venues to develop, as they are currently at risk of losing their status. Similar ventures have been carried out by Lord’s, The Oval and Old Trafford.
As much as £10m was approved for loan to fund the project before the current economic tumble.
Phil Macdonald, Operations and Development Director at Warwickshire CCC, claimed the redevelopment will benefit Birmingham by creating new jobs, and allow the club to remain competitive when bidding for international matches.
