Eight current and former Premier League managers have been accused of receiving bribes for player transfers, according to a report by The Daily Telegraph.
Football agents have been filmed by undercover reporters at The Daily Telegraph boasting about how many managers they had paid. The newspaper has also revealed it will release the name of an assistant manager at a football club who was filmed accepting £5,000 cash from undercover reporters.
The report also films unlicensed Italian agent, Pino Pagliara, who was banned from football in 2005 for five years for match fixing. In the footage, he suggests that various managers are known for accepting bribes and two other agents also named managers who are allegedly guilty of the offences.
The reports follow England manager Sam Allardyce losing his job after the newspaper disclosed he had offered advice on getting around Football Association (FA) rules on player transfers.
Allardyce was secretly filmed stating it was “not a problem” to bypass FA rules and certain agents are “doing it all the time”. After the reports surfaced, the FA confirmed it had “mutually agreed” to terminate the England manager’s contract just 67 days into his tenure.
In addition to eight current and recent Premier League managers named by agents, two managers of Championship clubs were also mentioned to have been open to illicit payments.
The newspaper stated it has “agreed to give all relevant transcripts to the FA and has also passed information to the police.”
The FA CEO, Martin Glenn, and participation and development director, Kelly Simmons will be on the panel at the next Sport Industry Breakfast Club on 10th November. Click here for more details.
