Eleven Sports has added the PGA Championship to its fast-growing portfolio of UK and Ireland broadcast rights.
The global sports provider recently announced its entry to the UK market with two new channels and live and exclusive rights to every LaLiga and Serie A game in 2018-19.
The Aser company has now revealed plans to launch its new online streaming platform with live coverage of the PGA Championship, which is celebrating its centenary edition in 2018.
Starting on August 9th, Eleven will screen every round of the tournament – one of golf’s four annual majors – live and free of charge, through a seven-day trial across its UK website and digital apps.
The broadcaster has also revealed plans to launch an “affordable and flexible” pricing model for its content going forward.
Commenting on the move, Danny Menken, group manager director, said: “Launching Eleven Sports in the UK and Ireland with such a prestigious event as the 100th PGA Championship, confirms our position as a major player in the market.
“We are looking forward to maximising this fantastic opportunity to appeal to existing golf fans through comprehensive free-to-air live coverage and analysis, while also growing new audiences with our fresh and innovative ways of delivering leading sports action.”
PGA of America CCO Jeff Price added: “It is a tremendous way to celebrate the 100th PGA Championship by becoming the inaugural free-to-air programme on Eleven Sports in the United Kingdom and Ireland,”
“We are excited that Eleven Sports will deliver major championship golf to diverse audiences through multiple, leading-edge digital platforms that are uniquely designed to connect to both the modern day and the next generation of fans.”
