Emirates has added to its impressive portfolio of sport sponsorships by signing
a deal to become the official airline of the 2007 Rugby World Cup.
The agreement between Emirates and Rugby World Cup Limited will see the brand
feature in all publicity for the tournament including the usual package of
perimeter boards and hospitality opportunities.
Emirates will develop a sophisticated activation programme to leverage the
sponsorship, including a substantial programme in France, targeting several
major cities in particular, as well as the Southern hemisphere countries.
Emirates is already heavily involved in rugby through its sponsorship of IRB
referees and four tournaments in the IRB Sevens World Series.
In addition, Emirates has major sponsorship ties in football, golf, cricket,
horseracing and sailing.
The Rugby World Cup 2007 commercial programme now incorporates six worldwide
partners: Visa International, EDF, Peugeot, GMF, Société Générale and SNCF;
and six official sponsors – Heineken, Vediorbis, Capgemini, Orange, Toshiba and
Emirates.
