England’s bid to host the World Cup in 2018 or 2022 has attracted more commercial backing with supermarket giant Morrisons set to be unveiled later today as the third major partner of the bid.

Morrisons will become the third sponsor of the bid after telecommunications brand BT and tax and advisory services firm PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP announced their backing.

England is one of eight competitors bidding to host the 2018 tournament and one of 10 bidding to host the 2022 tournament. The decision for both tournaments will be announced in Zurich in December 2010.

Rumours suggest that an airline category will be announced as the fourth sponsor in the coming months as England’s bid begins to gather strong commercial backing.

Last week it was announced that David Dein, former Arsenal vice-chairman, has been appointed international president of England’s World Cup bid.

Andy Anson, chief executive of England 2018, will be the interviewee at the inaugural Sport Industry Breakfast Club event on 16th March, only two months before the official bid document is due to be handed in to world governing body FIFA.
