The England World Cup bid committee has said that it will withdraw from the race to host the 2022 World Cup and focus its bid for 2018, but only if the United States formally end its interest in the 2018 tournament.

International president of England’s bid, David Dein, said that he does expect the USA end its 2018 campaign and in turn says: ‘Consequently we will almost certainly withdraw from 2022.’

However, conflicting reports are emerging from America as US Soccer chairman Sunil Gulati says that America could still bid for both tournaments.??

FIFA will decide on the 2018 and 2022 hosts when its executive committee meets on 2nd December in Zurich.??

England, Russia, the United States and joint bids from Spain/Portugal and Netherlands/Belgium are bidding for 2018 – but all remain in the race for 2022.
