England’s footballers past and present have joined forces to mark the tenth anniversary of the England Footballers Foundation and back the Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research UK in 2017.
Current and former squad members have posed for striking images and recorded moving video messages to raise awareness of bowel cancer symptoms using the hashtag #MooreToKnow.
The campaign announcement comes on the 24th anniversary of Bobby’s passing. The World Cup winning England captain was just 51 years-old when he succumbed to the disease on 24th February 1993.
In the build-up to England’s matches against Germany and Lithuania in March, a nationwide poster campaign featuring players Harry Kane, Joe Hart, Gary Cahill and Jordan Henderson will be launched by the England Footballers Foundation. The CGI enhanced images replicate the awareness initiative from former internationals in 2009.
In addition to these visuals, members of the original players’ committee that set up the England Footballers Foundation in 2007 have recorded a series of interviews to mark the tenth anniversary of the charity and support the Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research UK.
Frank Lampard, John Terry, Rio Ferdinand, Gary Neville, Steven Gerrard, David James, David Beckham and Michael Owen will explain why supporting Bobby’s legacy is still very important to them and why they are proud of the current squad continuing the work of the players’ foundation.
The interviews will be released over the coming weeks but to tee up the campaign, short videos have released featuring former England players Frank Lampard, John Terry and Rio Ferdinand talking about Bobby Moore.
The Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research UK was set up by Bobby’s widow Stephanie Moore MBE. Stephanie said: “It’s heart-warming that the England players continue to recognise Bobby’s achievements but there are also serious messages we need to get across in this new campaign.
“Bowel cancer is the second most common cause of cancer death in the UK with 44 lives being taken every day. Diagnosing the disease early is crucial and we urge men and women to visit www.bobbymoorefund.org to learn about the symptoms and get examined by their doctor.
“The BMF goal is simple, to bring forward the day when bowel cancer is cured. To do this we need public support and funds, just like the England players have given us over the last ten years.”
Current and former players will recognise the achievements of the England Footballers Foundation at a special fundraising event at Wembley Stadium after England v Lithuania on Sunday 26th March 2017.
