England Rugby and Optimum Nutrition, an Official Partner of the RFU, have launched a new initiative called ‘Food for Rugby’, designed to give diet and nutritional advice to the wider rugby community.

Hosted on the England Rugby website, the hub is designed to be a source of information and advice for players, coaches and parents on a range of topics including how to manage weight loss, muscle gain and recovery, allowing players to optimise their diets for their own unique situations.

Nutritional information is divided into age groups and also includes female-focused sections as well injury advice. Recipes designed by chefs working within rugby as well as England’s own nutritional team are available on the platform, while the players themselves are involved by hosting video tutorials to give their own advice.

Mike Naylor, Senior Men’s Nutritionist, England Rugby Performance, said: “We’ve taken the extensive research in nutrition and have broken it down into bite size, easy digestible chunks to ensure an engaging and interactive experience for players, coaches and parents that will help them to achieve their performance goals and improve their knowledge.”

Dr. Crionna Tobin, Head of Science and Education, Optimum Nutrition said: “The approach we have taken to educating the player, parent and coach in the area of nutrition is to encompass the science, practical recipes and the experience of the player on how they implement nutrition strategies to achieve their performance goals. This holistic approach of blending these three areas makes this a ground-breaking resource for everyone interested in improving rugby performance or general fitness.”
