England’s game against Australia this coming Saturday has boosted ticket prices to record highs, according to online ticket marketplace, viagogo.

Two tickets have been purchased for £4,000 each, the highest ticket price ever paid for a non-finals ticket, not just in rugby, but across all events on viagogo’s website since it launched in 2006, including Wimbledon, The French Open, and last year’s FIFA World Cup.

Tickets for the host’s must-win match against Australia – who England defeated to lift the Rugby World Cup in 2003 – are now exceeding prices being paid for the final.

A viagogo spokesperson commented: “This is the highest price ever paid for any non-final sports event, even outstripping prices for the final, suggesting fans are desperate to see what could be the greatest rugby game in recent history.”

Previously, the highest priced ticket paid for a non-final sporting event was £2,800 each for a pair of tickets to Andy Murray’s semi-final in 2013.

Tickets listed for England v Australia currently range between £404 – £5,000, with seats for the final starting at £890, with some listed as high as £60,000.
