The Commonwealth Games in Delhi has received another blow after England and Scotland have expressed concerns over the athletes living conditions.

?Work on the athletes village is yet to be completed and it is believed that plumbing and electrical problems still exist ahead of the arrival of the first English athletes on Thursday.

?A statement read: ‘Commonwealth Games England remains optimistic that England participation at the Games can go ahead. However there is a lot still to be done in the Village and this needs to be done with some urgency.’??

Commonwealth Games Federation chief Michael Fennell says the accommodation is ‘seriously compromised’.

The village officially opens to 7,000 athletes and officials on Thursday and Fennell has said that the high security around the site has made improving the infrastructure difficult.

?Scottish officials have also found their accommodation in the village to be ‘unsafe and unfit for human habitation’.??

Whilst New Zealand team manager Dave Currie says the Games ‘may not happen’ because organisers face severe difficulties in completing athletes accommodation.??

‘If the village is not ready and athletes can’t come, obviously the implications of that are that it’s not going to happen,’ said Currie.??

The Games start on 3rd – 14th October in New Delhi, with over 7,000 competitors and thousands of fans expected to travel to the event.
