England will claim the ICC bonus of £111,666 as the world number one Test team, after weather intervened in South Africa’s bid, with rain halting the charge in the first test in New Zealand.

Second-ranked side South Africa would have taken the top spot with a 3-0 whitewash over the Kiwis, but with New Zealand chasing 401 to win on the final day in Dunedin, rain prevented any further play.

The International Cricket Council awarded the bonus to whichever team has the most ranking points in test cricket on the 1st April cut-off date.

England’s players have just flown to Sri Lanka for their upcoming two-Test series against Sri Lanka.

South Africa will retain second place and win £47,860 if they avoid defeat in both remaining Tests in New Zealand.
