England Win Set To Double ITV Ad Revenue

Industry estimates are predicting that host broadcaster ITV will more than
double the advertising revenue from its coverage of this weekend’s Rugby World
Cup semi-final due to England’s participation in the game.

With England beating Australia and France overcoming New Zealand in last
weekend’s quarter-finals, the subsequent England v France clash represents a
much greater appeal to advertisers than the predicted fixture between the two
southern hemisphere sides.

The game, which will be broadcast on ITV1 at 8pm, is predicted to bring in
around £2.5m in advertising revenue for the broadcaster compared with the £1m
figure quoted had the game not featured England.

The semi-final is forecast to deliver an audience in excess of 10m for ITV in
terms of an in-home audience with a further 30% more viewers watching in pubs
and clubs.

Around each RWC match ITV offers a 60-second slot before the national
anthems, two 170-second breaks at half time and a 210-second break at the final
whistle.

Only advertisers that have pre-booked World Cup packages have secure
advertising slots for the game and around 50% of the spots are thought to be
renegotiable up until the last minute.

EDF Energy and Peugeot are the official broadcast sponsors of ITV’s Rugby
World Cup coverage.
