Premier League clubs Liverpool and Chelsea have been the biggest beneficiaries of the FIFA payout for the World Cup played in South Africa last year.

400 clubs have profited from the FIFA payout that is given to clubs for releasing their players to the tournament as part of the FIFA Executive Committee’s decision to reward clubs for their part in the competition.

The committee agreed to set aside provisions of £25m to be given to clubs and the payments were distributed via the Member Associations to the clubs of all 736 players who participated in the competition.

The amount of money a club receives is based on the amount of players it releases and how long for, as FIFA pays on a ‘per player’ deal – meaning that Barcelona topped the list with £560,000.

Chelsea received £492,000 and Liverpool were given £449,000 whilst Bayern Munich and Real Madrid made up the top five beneficiaries.
