The English Institute of Sport (EIS) has announced that Matt Archibald will become its new CEO.
Archibald joins the EIS from GB Taekwondo, where he has spent the past four years as CEO, overseeing a period during which the sport won three Olympic and two Paralympic medals at Tokyo 2020 and hosted the 2019 Taekwondo World Championships in Manchester.
Prior to that, he held advisory roles at both UK Sport and the British Olympic Association and will bring his experience and knowledge from these positions to the EIS.
John Dowson, Chair of the EIS, said of the appointment: “I am delighted that Matt will be joining us shortly as the new CEO.
“Matt’s background as a CEO in high performance sport, covering Olympic and Paralympic disciplines, and his previous experience in sports governance and leadership will prove to be invaluable as we work with our customers and partners going forward.”
Archibald added “I have worked closely with colleagues and teams at the EIS over a number of years and am very aware of the brilliant work that the EIS and its people do to enable British sports and athletes to excel.
“The EIS is moving into an exciting new period, supported by a collaborative new strategy, and I can’t wait to get started. I am looking forward to the challenge and the opportunity of leading such an excellent and innovative organisation.”
Starting in early February, Matt will succeed former EIS National Director Nigel Walker, who stepped down from the position earlier this year following more than 10 years in post.
