Epsom Downs Racecourse has announced an increase in prize money for the Investec Oaks, Diamond Jubilee Coronation Cup (sponsored by Investec) and Investec Derby Trial, with the classic trial being further bolstered by a wild-card into the Investec Derby.

The fillies’ classic, the Investec Oaks, will increase from £325,000 to £350,000 and the Diamond Jubilee Coronation Cup (sponsored by Investec), will increase from £250,000 to £300,000 in 2012; with the Coronation Cup having been moved from Friday to Saturday this year to mark the Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

Epsom will also add an additional £20,000 to the Investec Derby Trial on 25th April at the season opening Investec Spring Meeting; taking the total prize fund to £50,000.

The race is the only Derby trial to take place over the Epsom course and will now offer winning connections a wild-card entry into Investec Derby, if not already entered.

Rupert Trevelyan, managing director of Epsom Downs Racecourse said: ‘We are delighted to announce an additional investment in the Investec Oaks, which remains the highlight of Investec Ladies Day. The Investec Coronation Cup is a race we have targeted for development, so it pleasing to add £50,000 to its prize fund, particularly in light of its renaming to mark Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee.’

‘We hope the addition of £20,000 to the Investec Derby Trial will in time help the race reach Listed Status. The first Derby Trial is held at Epsom and it is within our gift to offer a wild-card to the Investec Derby. By offering a wild-card we hope to not only strengthen the field for the Investec Derby Trial, but offer the winner of the Trial the opportunity to be part of the greatest flat race in the world, the Investec Derby.’

This year’s Investec Derby Festival takes place on Friday 1st and Saturday 2nd June, with the Investec Derby forming part of Her Majesty the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
