Sports nutrition brand EQ Nutrition has added Joe Clarke, Rio Olympic gold medal winner in the Canoe Slalom, to its list of athletes.
EQ Nutrition’s roster includes IBF heavyweight world champion Anthony Joshua, boxing coach and fitness expert Shane McGuigan, and the Wasps rugby team.
Joe is the first British athlete to win the Canoe Slalom and made history in the Rio Olympics at the age of 24.
Previously, Joe showed potential at junior level winning European silver medals in 2009 and 2010 and then winning silver medals in the World Championship in 2013 and 2014. As a senior athlete Joe won two bronze medals at the ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships and also won two silver medals in the 2014 and 2015 European Championships.
Joe was selected for the 2016 Summer Olympics after winning the individual event at the British selection trials in October 2015. At the Olympics he qualified for the final of the men’s slalom with the third-fastest time in the semi-final but went on to win gold in the final with a time of 88.53 seconds, the first time a British competitor had won gold in this event
Clarke was also appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2017 New Year Honours for services to canoeing.
EQ Nutrition founder Simon Steven commented: “Joe is a great addition to the EQ team and adds some diversity to the incredible list of athletes we have acquired in the last couple of years. It’s also great to have a current Olympic Champion who understand the high level of determination and dedication required to be the best at what you do. It’s also clear that Joe will continue to grow and achieve even more in the near future which everyone at EQ is excited to be part of.”
