ESPN has rebranded its broadband service in Europe and the Middle East, formerly known as ESPN360.com, as the ESPN Player with immediate effect.
The move comes as the live and on-demand sports service has seen marked growth since re-launching in August, 2009.
ESPN Player will also add features and functionality to enhance the viewing experience, including the introduction of HD streaming and adaptive streaming technology.
The broadband platform, which is has doubled its subscriber base in the past year and is available in more than 40 countries across Europe and the Middle East.
Among the new facilities that ESPN Player will offer include HD streaming, a multi-lingual interface, and highlight markers for NHL ice hockey games – essentially marking key moments throughout the action for ease of use.
‘ESPN Player is still a young product, but one that has attracted a loyal and growing audience,’ said Robin Ashton, commercial director, digital media, ESPN – Europe, Middle East and Africa.
‘The new brand more clearly identifies the service, and the new technology enhancements will further improve the viewing experience for our customers. ESPN Player is an important part of our overall digital strategy in the region and we will be building on this re-brand by adding further content throughout the year.’
ESPN Player joins ESPN’s growing digital portfolio in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, which includes the web and M-sites ESPNCricinfo.com, ESPNSoccernet.com, ESPNScrum.com, ESPNF1.com and the newly launched ESPN.co.uk website.
