ESPN will continue to broadcast the Scottish Premier League in the UK following the collapse of Rangers FC – joining co-rights holder Sky Sports in renegotiating its deal with the SPL.

ESPN will now broadcast 40 live games this season from the Scottish Premier League and the Scottish Football League, the latter including the new incarnation of Rangers, who are playing in Division Three this season.

ESPN will broadcast ten live Rangers games, including three home fixtures, with the new deal running until 2017.

Last week, Sky Sports signed a new five-year agreement with the Scottish Premier League to continue its coverage of Scottish football, and will also include five Rangers fixtures in Division Three following the club’s re-entry to the fourth tier of Scottish football.

The existing agreements with both broadcasters were understood to include a clause that allowed for a renegotiation should either Rangers or Celtic not be in the top-tier.
