ESPN is to broadcast a nightly show, South Africa Nightly, throughout the 2010 FIFA World Cup, direct from South Africa.

Hosted by Ray Stubbs, South Africa Nightly will capture, reflect, and deliver hard-hitting opinions from journalists, players, fans and coaches on the World Cup.

The programme will also report the news and stories of each day, bring viewers original feature stories, and following the journey of the England team at the tournament in South Africa.

Launching on the eve of the 2010 FIFA World Cup on 10th June, each 30-minute episode will air at 11pm on ESPN in the UK during the month-long tournament.

Stubbs will anchor the show from on-site in Johannesburg, where he will host guests at a specially-designed studio in Nelson Mandela Square, while reporter Darrell Currie will provide daily insights on the England team.

South Africa Nightly builds on ESPN’s football line-up in the UK, which includes exclusive live coverage of the Barclays Premier League, Clydesdale Bank Premier League, UEFA Europa League, Italian Serie A, German Bundesliga and US Major League Soccer, among others.

The live TV rights to the World Cup in the UK are held in a joint deal with terrestrial broadcasters BBC and ITV.

In the US, ESPN is the official 2010 FIFA World Cup television partner, and is gearing up to present comprehensive coverage of the event.

The company will televise all 64 matches live and in high definition on ESPN, ESPN2 and ABC, and extensive coverage on ESPN360.com and ESPN Mobile TV. ESPN will also televise 25 matches on ESPN 3D, the new US-focused 3D network, launching at the beginning of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
