ESPN has announced that it has been awarded the exclusive UK mobile highlights rights to all 380 Barclays Premier League over the next three seasons, taking over from BSkyB who previously held the rights.
The deal will begin at the start of the 2010/11 season and will allow Disney-owned broadcaster ESPN, also a Barclays Premier League television partner, to deliver in-match, post-match and customised highlights, including goals, to football fans in the UK.
Lynne Frank, senior vice president and managing director, ESPN said: ‘Mobile devices are an indispensible lifeline for football fans, who expect easy, quick access to the latest goals and action wherever they are.’
ESPN won TV rights to show Premier League matches in July 2009 after the collapse of Setanta.
From next season ESPN and ESPN HD will feature live and exclusive coverage of 23 Barclays Premier League matches, 25 FA Cup matches, 43 Guinness Premiership rugby matches, 30 Clydesdale Bank Premier League matches and 27 UEFA Europa League matches.
