After revealing that he is on the road to recovery earlier this week, Mark Cavendish’s pro cycling outfit – currently known as Omega Pharma Quick-Step – has also gone through some changes, after confirming that it will be renamed as Etixx-Quick-Step from next season.
Etixx, a Belgian sports nutrition brand, is a subsidiary of former title sponsor Omega Pharma and will have branding on the front of the Belgian WorldTour team’s jerseys.
The new deal with Etixx – founded in 2009 and also a sponsor of the Ligue 1 side Lille – will run through until the end of the 2017 season.
Star man Cavendish was forced to miss the rest of the Tour de France this year after injuring himself in a fall in the opening stages of the race, but confirmed he was back in training on Monday.
‘Omega Pharma, principal shareholder, is more than willing to make space for this ambitious young player on the jerseys of one of the most talented cycling teams seen in recent years,’ read an official press release.
‘The aim is to make Etixx a household name at international level. Combined with the sponsorship contract for LOSC (Lille Olympique Sporting Club), recently signed by Etixx with the French Ligue 1 club, the plan is already off to a winning start. Within the next few days yet another sponsorship contract with a Ligue 1 team will be announced.’
