The champions of next year’s European Championships in Poland and Ukraine will earn up to £20.6m, including £4.5m for victory in the final – after an agreement was reached at a two-day meeting of UEFA’s executive committee.

UEFA intends to distribute a total of £170m prize and appearance money during Euro 2012, up from £160m in 2008.

The executive committee also approved a plan to award a commemorative cap and medal to international players who reach 100 or more caps for their national team.

Meanwhile, the executive committee said that UEFA expects results within three months from world governing body FIFA in its efforts for better governance following controversies over allegations of corruption.

A statement from the executive committee said: ‘takes good note of the will of FIFA to take concrete and efficient measures with regards to good governance, expects to see results within the next three months and is following the situation closely’.
