The BBC is set to broadcast the EuroHockey Nations tournament this August, with England, Scotland and Ireland games shown via the BBC’s red button and online service.

The move follows a successful London 2012 for the sport, which saw Team GB’s women secure a bronze medal.

The EuroHockey Nations will be played in Belgium between 17th and 25th August, with tournaments for men and women featuring eight teams each.

England, Ireland and Scotland are in the women’s tournament, while England and Ireland are entered into the men’s event.

Sally Munday, chief executive of England Hockey, said: ‘With the international teams on the up and hockey an ever-increasingly exciting sport to watch, mainstream coverage of top-level hockey is instrumental in helping us increase the visibility of the sport. We hope the British public enjoy the coverage and that people are inspired to get involved in the sport.’

Munday, along with minister of sport Hugh Robertson and former BOA chief executive Andy Hunt, were in attendance yesterday to watch England reach the semi-final stage of the Investec World Hockey League in Chiswick.

The women’s team edged a tight affair on a damp and blustery Thursday evening – beating Italy, the lowest ranked team in the competition, 3-2.

The finals will take place at the West London venue over the weekend, with a place in the final guaranteeing a qualification place at next year’s World Cup.
