Western Union has been announced as the new presenting sponsor of the Uefa Europa League, with the payment services company set to sponsor European club football’s second tier competition from the 2012/13 season until the 2015 final.
The three-year deal allows the brand have global branding rights and branding at Europa League venues. It will also be able to activate across traditional, digital and social media.
The agreement, made with Uefa marketing agency Team Marketing AG, also includes sponsorship of the Uefa Futsal Cup in 2013, 2014 and 2015.
David Taylor, chief executive of competition organisers Uefa Events SA, said: ‘The Uefa Europa League has taken great strides over the last three years and gone from strength to strength to become a large-scale competition in its own right and with its own identity. I am pleased to welcome Western Union as a new partner to the Uefa Europa League family. We highly value the support of this international brand which will increase and promote the growth of this great competition on a global scale.’

Western Union replaces car manufacturer Seat as the presenting sponsor, who supported the Uefa Europa League from 2010 to 2012.
