Eurosport and the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) have announced an agreement for exclusive coverage of the 2016 European Athletics Championships in the UK and Europe.

The European-wide rights agreement, acquired from the EBU, covers a series of top athletics events over the next four years.

Coverage begins with the 2016 European Athletics Championships in Amsterdam and includes the 2017 and 2019 European Athletics Indoor Championships as well as the 2017, 2018 and 2019 European Athletics Team Championships.

Eurosport, chief executive, Peter Hutton, said: “Eurosport has firmly established itself as the destination of choice for fans of Olympic sports on a year-round basis. This deal demonstrates our commitment to athletics and the Olympic movement as we look forward to beginning our coverage of the Olympic Games across Europe in two years’ time.”

Coverage of this year’s European Athletics Championships in the UK will see triple jump legend Jonathan Edwards take on his new role as Eurosport’s lead presenter, who recently agreed to head up the channel’s flagship programming from 2016, including the Olympic Games from 2018.
