Eurosport has retained the broadcast rights to the next three editions of cricket’s Champions League T20 (CLT20) in the UK, Ireland and mainland Europe.

The pan-European broadcaster has renewed its agreement with global rights holder Star Sports for live, delayed and replay coverage of the short-form event, which brings together some of the leading teams in domestic cricket from around the world each year. It will also be entitled to carry games on catch-up TV services.

The new terms will come into effect in time for the 2014 edition in India this month, and cover the 2015 and 2016 tournaments.

There will be no English representatives due to the overlap with the end of the country’s county season, but teams from the Indian Premier League (IPL) will be involved alongside others from Australia, South Africa, Pakistan, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and the West Indies.

David Kerr, managing director of British Eurosport said of the deal: ‘The Champions League Twenty20 tournament gives viewers spectacular cricket from some of the game’s top international stars.  Eurosport has shown the CLT20 since 2009 and it’s brought many new viewers to the channel, so extending the deal to 2016 gives us an opportunity to build the tournament and cricket awareness in general. We now look forward to another exciting event in September this year.’

The T20 competition will again take place in India, with the venues confirmed as Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Mohali and Raipur from 13th September to 4th October.

Eurosport has screened the CLT20 in the UK, Ireland and Europe since the inaugural edition in 2009.
