Eurosport has sealed a new deal with the European Broadcasting Union and Amaury Sport Organisation that ensures cycling fans across Europe will be able to watch every minute of the Tour de France live on its channels for the next six years.

The current deal was scheduled to expire in 2019, but the four-year extension ensures that the network will continue to cover the Grand Tour cycling event exclusively across 38 European markets until 2023.

The Discovery-owned channel will show every minute from each stage of the race on its television channels, as well as the Eurosport Player live streaming and on-demand platform.

The agreement marks the continuation of a broadcast partnership which first began in 1991.

Peter Hutton, chief executive of Eurosport, said: “We proudly claim to be the home of cycling and this new deal is further proof of that statement. We now have every minute of the Tour de France until 2023, meaning all the Grand Tours, the five Monuments and over 30 UCI World Tour events will be on Eurosport.

“The Tour de France remains the sport’s biggest event and we are delighted that the average viewing figures for this year’s Tour have increased. We remain committed to looking at ways to improve the production of the sport and using more access to data to give a clearer explanation of the stories of each day.”

On Sunday, Britain’s Chris Froome won the Tour de France for the fourth time in Paris. The Team Sky rider is now second in the all-time list after completing his fourth victory.
