The Eurosport Group has kicked off its 25th year by attracting its highest ever numbers of fans to its online and mobile editorial offer. In the opening weeks of 2014, the pan-European sports platform achieved its best digital performance ever breaking the 7 million digital fans per day benchmark for the first time.

These positive results keep Eurosport on course to meet its ambitious target to interact with 8 million digital fans every day ahead of the FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

Arnaud Maillard, Eurosport’s director of internet and new media, said: ‘In 2013 we set ourselves the target of reaching 8 million fans every day with our online and digital offer. It was ambitious and I am delighted the results in January show we are on track to reach it.’

‘The breadth of content being produced on Eurosport.com and the quality of the editorial mean we have a very strong offer which fans are clearly enjoying and returning to. We have more scope to grow our audience on mobile this year and given the packed year of sport ahead we are well placed to attract even more fans.’

Eurosport’s digital milestones in January 2014 include:

  • On 19th January 2014, Eurosport reached its best digital performance ever with 7,165,370 visitors (duplicated web + mobile).

  • In week 4 of 2014, Eurosport.com received 4,262,961 daily web visitors in average, the best weekly web performance since March 2013.

The strong January figures were aided by sporting events shown on the platform, with the most popular stories on Eurosport.com including the Australian Open, the European Handball Championship, big football matches in the major European Leagues and wintersports (Biathlon & Slalom, and Ski Jumping).
