Premier League club Everton has opened fresh talks with Liverpool City Council to consider possible locations for a new stadium.
The city council had previously turned down the club’s initial application to build a 50,000 stadium as part of a complex in Kirkby.
However a joint statement has stated that recent negotiations between the club and council were ‘positive’.
Everton wants to increase the capacity of its ground and introduce more corporate facilities to boost match day revenue.
The club claims that the limited 40,100 capacity of Goodison Park creates ‘a huge financial disadvantage to overcome.’
Everton is still keen on the option of sharing a ground with local rivals Liverpool, although their neighbours have so far ruled out the idea.
