Sky Sports has added Ashes-winning England captain Andrew Strauss to its commentary team for the Investec Ashes series, beginning in July, as well as the winter tour to Australia from November.
Strauss will become the sixth former England captain to become part of Sky’s Ashes coverage along with Sir Ian Botham, David Gower, Michael Atherton, Nasser Hussain and Bob Willis.
He said: ‘I am delighted to be joining the Sky Sports team for the Ashes. I can’t wait to watch and commentate on what promises to be two exciting contests. I look forward to joining the guys in the summer and sharing my thoughts with the viewers.’
Paul King, executive producer of cricket for Sky Sports, added: ‘As a three-time Ashes winner, twice as captain, Andrew will provide fascinating insight into both teams. I’m sure our viewers will enjoy what he has to say and his commentary and analysis will strengthen our coverage even further.’
The former opening batsman played 100 Test matches for England, 50 as captain, and scored 7,037 runs including 21 centuries.
He is one of England’s most successful ever captains, winning two Ashes series, including England’s first series win in Australia for 24 years. He also led England to number one in the ICC Test rankings during his captaincy.
This summer’s Ashes contest is the eighth shown live by Sky Sports, with ball-by-ball coverage beginning with the first Test at Trent Bridge on 10th July.
England got off to the perfect start for their summer of cricket, demolishing New Zealand in the first Investec Test at Lord’s by 170 runs.
