Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone has revealed that he is considering moving the inaugural Indian Grand Prix to the end of the season, in order to accommodate for the postponed Bahrain Grand Prix – which was originally set to open the season, but was cancelled following civil unrest in the country.
The Indian race is scheduled for 30th October, but the F1 chief is considering moving it to 4th December, a week after the current final race in Brazil – with Bahrain taking India’s date.
Ecclestone said: ‘We are having a look at it. Everything is possible. I’m not sure at the moment what I’m going to do’. ‘Everything’s up in the air, I haven’t decided. We’ll see if we have to go to Bahrain’.
However the decision could be taken out of Ecclestone’s hands if the sports governing body, the FIA, rule against Bahrain returning to the F1 calendar on 3rd June.
The Gulf state is currently enforcing martial law, but recently announced that it would be lifted on 1st June, with authorities insisting that the country is returning to normal.
