Australian F1 driver, Daniel Ricciardo has been confirmed to start this year’s Wings for Life World Run in the UK, which will see runners try to outlast the Catcher Car, driven by former F1 driver David Coulthard.

The Infiniti Red Bull Racing driver will be getting the Wings for Life World Run UK race underway, taking place in Cambridge this year.

Ricciardo commented: “The Wings for Life World Run always stands out as an inspirational event to me, and I’ve really enjoyed taking part in the last couple of years’ races. This year I’m excited to be taking up a role at the start line, I will be doing my best to get everyone pumped up and ready to beat David Coulthard in that Catcher Car”.

The Wings for Life World Run was launched in 2014 to benefit the not-for-profit Wings for Life Spinal Cord Research Foundation, which is dedicated to finding a cure for spinal cord injury.

Presented with the support of main partners Garmin and Puma, the Wings for Life World is a synchronised race where participants across the globe run simultaneously, no matter the hour or the weather in their location.

Meanwhile, the finish line is represented by a celebrity-driven vehicle that gives the runners a head start before driving the course at a predetermined pace. Only at the point of being overtaken is a runner’s race over, with the individual man and woman last to be caught declared global champions.
