Formula One drivers have slammed officials for keeping the Australian Grand Prix as a twilight race, highlighting that conditions will be dangerous.
The race is due to begin at 5pm local time, meaning it will end in twilight, with drivers looking directly into a setting sun when they make the turn into the final straight.
The Grand Prix Drivers’ Association had asked the time to be reconsidered after the twilight race was introduced last season to better suit European television audiences.
Renault’s driver Robert Kubica said: ‘Last year it was extremely dangerous for the last 20 laps of the race. Going through the last corner was like going through a blind place, it was impossible to see. It’s not nice to go in an F1 car through a corner where it’s really very difficult to see anything.’
