India will host a F1 race by 2010 after the sport’s governing body Formula One Management finalised a deal with a construction company to build a new racetrack in the country.
FOM has signed a deal with JP Associates to develop the site at Greater Noida which is around 30 miles west of the Indian capital, Delhi. The contract specifies that the track must be ready to host a F1 race by 2010.
India has been hoping to stage a Grand Prix since Narain Karthikeyan became the first Indian F1 driver in 2005.
Leading Indian businessman Vijay Mallya has also recently acquired the Spyker team and renamed it Force India.
Race promoters, the Indian Olympic Association, announced in September that FOM had approved two sites on the outskirts of New Delhi to build a circuit.
