With a potential World Cup bid around the corner, The Football Association has
rejigged its commercial department, appointing Coca-Cola marketer Simon Freedman
as its new head of marketing.
The 35-year old Freedman joins from Coca-Cola GB, where he oversaw the
marketing strategy of the brand through its football sponsorship activities.
He was formerly a senior brand manager at Dairy Crest, before which he held
various sales and marketing roles with Nestlé.
The FA role has been held for the past two years on a consultancy basis by Ed
Coan, former marketing director at Watford FC.
Coan will revert to his original consultancy role with Freedman’s
appointment, taking on specific projects for the game’s governing body.
The FA’s marketing team operates from within Soho Square’s commercial
division, headed by group commercial director Jonathan Hill.
