The FA received £6m for England’s dismal World Cup campaign as the Spanish Football Association collected a record £20m for winning the tournament, after Spain earned a 1-0 extra-time victory over Holland in the Final.

England’s second round loss to Germany amounted to £6m prize money – as did the other nations that made it through the group stages only to fall at the first hurdle.

The Dutch collected a hefty £16m for the runners-up prize whilst semi-finalists Germany and Uruguay each received £13.3m.

Quarter-finalists Argentina, Brazil, Ghana and Paraguay each picked up £12m.

South Africa and the other nations eliminated in the group stages earned £5.3m.
