The FA has unveiled a standalone OTT platform to service the women’s game.

The new platform, known as the FA Player, will launch on 2nd September ahead of the new Barclays FA Women’s Super League season and will bring live coverage of games to fans for free.

As well as one Championship game per round, the governing body’s new platform will provide live coverage of all 132 games in the WSL, apart from the BT Sport game each week, where the FA Player will provide audio coverage only.

Alongside the live action, the platform will also give fans the opportunity to watch highlights, features and archive footage of Lionesses games as well as domestic club matches.

The hotly anticipated new WSL season will begin on 7th September, when Manchester City play newly-promoted Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium.

On the back of a successful Women’s World Cup, and the commercial investment from headline partner Barclays, the WSL will be watched closely when it begins in September as the industry mobilises behind the women’s game.
