The FA has launched a three-year partnership with The Pokemon Company International, ultimately aimed at increasing participation in the FA National Futsal Programme.

The indoor variant of football, which is played with a harder, smaller ball designed to bounce less than a normal one, favours skills such as close control and places an emphasis on creativity which the FA views as integral to raising the standards of football in the country.

The Pokemon Company International and The FA will work together to bring the partnership into schools and clubs, with The FA’s National Youth Futsal Festival scheduled to take place in May 2020. The pair will also work together to support the England men’s national futsal team and will aim to raise the profile of the indoor game among children around the country as part of the drive to grow futsal in the UK among younger demographics.

Dan Kiddle, The FA’s Head of Commercial Partnerships, said: “We are delighted to welcome the Pokémon Company International as a partner of The FA to support our national futsal strategy and help grow participation in England.

“Pokémon is an instantly recognisable brand across the world and we are excited to work together to encourage young players, of all abilities, to play the game of Futsal.”
