Multiplex, the construction company responsible for building the new Wembley
Stadium, is finally ready to hand over the keys to the £757m venue to the
Football Association by the weekend according to reports.
Building work on the stadium is close to completion as Multiplex works
towards the target of staging the FA Cup final on 19 May as the first major
event at the new venue.
While the FA is scheduled to receive the keys to Wembley by the weekend or
Monday at the latest, the venue still needs to stage two test events before it
can get its safety certificate.
The first of these is scheduled to be a community day for 60,000 people on 17
March.
The second test event will be an England Under-21 match a week after the
community event, and unless there are unforeseen problems, a safety certificate
will be awarded in time for the FA Cup final to take place.
The late handing over of the keys to the FA is more than a year after the
initial estimation of the completion date after the project ran into financial
difficulties.
