The organising committee for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games has appointed the Fast Track agency to sell its international broadcast rights.

The London-based agency will focus on key global markets including South Africa, Asia and New Zealand, as well as exploring non-Commonwealth Games territories.

Glasgow 2014 said that it expects a global audience of around two billion to experience the sports action and opening and closing ceremonies of the Games.

With two years to go Glasgow 2014 has two broadcast agreements in place, with the BBC in the host country and Network Ten in Australia.

Glasgow 2014’s chief executive, David Grevemberg, said: ‘Maximising the opportunity of Glasgow 2014’s international broadcast rights is a critical success factor in terms of ensuring as many people as possible across the world can share the experience of an outstanding Commonwealth Games in Scotland and the sporting achievements of thousands of great athletes from across the world.’

‘We are delighted to be working with Fast Track, a truly international sports agency with a wealth of experience and a successful Commonwealth Games track record. Through their efforts, we look forward to sharing Scotland’s biggest sporting spectacle with audiences around the globe.’

Richard Russell, who will lead the Fast Track team, added: ‘Fast Track is extremely proud to have been appointed. Glasgow 2014 will be the third consecutive Commonwealth Games that Fast Track has represented and we look forward to the challenge of building on the record income and distribution levels we achieved for Melbourne in 2006 and Delhi in 2010.’
