The International Automobile Federation (FIA) has confirmed that new Formula One entrants US F1 and Campos will be allowed to miss the first three races of the season and avoid punishment.
Jean Todt, president of the FIA, said that he does not expect the two teams to be ready for the opening race in Bahrain on 14th March, but added that they will be able to compete if they miss three races or less: ‘In the last draft of the Concorde agreement it’s written that a team can skip three races’.
The two new teams have yet to register both drivers or launch their cars.
They both missed the first testing session in Valencia earlier this month and are due to miss out on the testing this week in Jerez.
The owner of the A1 GP series Tony Teixeira has been in talks to buy Campos but nothing has been confirmed.
A total of four new teams have registered for the 2010 season including Richard Branson’s Virgin team and Lotus, which will unveil its car this week.
