Motorsport governing body the FIA has approved a number of changes to the F1 calendar including moving the 2010 Monaco Grand Prix forward one week from its originally scheduled date.
The FIA took the decision at a meeting in Paris on Wednesday and the race will now take place on 16th May.
That switch means there is only a one-week gap between Spain and Monaco, and a two-week break before the next GP in Turkey, which is easier transport-wise.
The FIA also backed a proposed swap of dates between Brazil and Abu Dhabi.
The finalised 2010 schedule will be published in December, and there are still several other issues which need resolving before then.
The Canadian Grand Prix on 13th June, which had been restored to the schedule after a one-year absence because of contractual difficulties, is still only marked as a provisional date, and there is also uncertainty over the British Grand Prix.
That race is currently scheduled for Donington on 11th July, but there have been persistent doubts over whether the circuit will be ready in time.
Initially, F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone had said the race’s former regular home at Silverstone could act as a back-up venue, but he has now backtracked and said it is not certain there will definitely be a British GP.
